  Frequently Asked Questions

When can I enroll?
Enrollment starts in the middle of January and is ongoing throughout the summer based on program availability

What time does camp run from?
The camp day runs from 9:00am until approximately 4:15pm.  Bus arrival on campus is between 9:00am and 9:20am.  The actual camp day begins at 9:30am, and dismissal starts around 3:45.  On most days, all of our busses are off campus at approx. 4:15pm (give or take).

When will my child be picked up by the bus?  When will he/she be dropped off?
Bus transportation at LuHi is door to door.  Because of this, it is almost impossible to tell pickup and drop off times in advance.

The weekend before each session begins, drivers will go out and make "dry runs" of every child on their route, timing out the aproximate pickup and drop off times.  The driver will leave a note card in your mailbox.  Note: If you do not receive your transportation information by the Saturday prior to your session begin, call our office at 516-626-1100 between the hours of 10am and 12pm.

General pickup time is between 8:00am and 8:45am.

What happens if it rains?
Depending on the program the child is attending, rainy day activities vary. Our Recreation, GIFT, and Rookie programs continue their day with inside activities. Conditions dictate what our instructional sports schools do. (i.e., many will remain outdoors if it is a light mist, or we would try to schedule off-site gym space if the forecast is an entire day of showers).

What is the difference between your different basketball programs?
The differences in our basketball programs are very subtle.  All of our programs feature top notch instruction led by professional coaches.  We feel you will be more than happy with whichever program you choose.

Is lunch included?
A lunch program is available on an optional basis at $60 per 2-week session for on-site lunches (hot items available) and $50 for those that have lunch off campus. Lunch items may also be purchased in some programs a la carte on a cash basis. Our menu is available on our website. Be sure to register for the lunch program on your enrollment application or call us at least two weeks prior to the start of the program.

Note: There is no refrigeration available for bagged lunches, so be sure to use a thermal-type container with an ice pack.

Is LuHi Peanut Free?
No.  LuHi is not a peanut free campus.

Can I register for one week of one session and one week of another session?
No. Our sessions are set up to most efficiently schedule instructional curriculum, buses, tuitions, etc.
Registration must adhere to our designated sessions.

Is there water available?
We do have water stations throughout the campus. It is advised that all students bring a water bottle with them.

Is the pool heated?
No. But it is in an elevated area that gets a lot of sun exposure.

Are there counselors on the bus?
No. Buses operate similarly to regular school buses. Students are reminded of bus regulations during specific program orientations.  Improper behavior on the bus may result in students losing bus privileges.

Do the buses have seat belts?
There are seat belts on the buses. However, drivers are not required to buckle students in.

Can I get picked up at one address and dropped off at another?
Can I go home on my friends’ bus?

No. Each student is assigned a seat on one bus for the entire session. Students may only ride on the bus assigned in order to maintain accountability.

Are bus routes reversed from morning to afternoon (are the last picked up in the morning the first off in the afternoon)?
Yes. Students that live the furthest from our campus must expect to spend the longest amount of time in transit.

What if it is really hot out?
It is always anticipated to be seasonably warm during our summer programs.  Afterall... it's Summer!
However, in the case of an unusually hot day, water breaks and time out of the sun are increased.

What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?
Our minimum camper-to-counselor ratio is 9 to 1. Programs that include younger children (grades K to 3) generally have ratios as low as 6 to 1. Counselors include head counselors and junior counselors.

Can parents visit?
Parents are always welcomed on campus. However, you must stop at the front entrance and receive a visitors' pass.

Is there religious education in the summer program?
No. LuHi Summer Programs are non-sectarian.

How rigid are the age/grade eligibility guidelines?
Grade eligibility requirements have been determined for each program we offer. We must strictly adhere to these guidelines for the safety of our students.

Can I pick up my child early?
Students being picked up early must be signed out at the Nurse’s office by a parent or guardian no later than 3:30 p.m. Students may NOT be signed out by anyone other than a parent/legal guardian unless permission is received in writing prior to dismissal.

Can my son be in the same group as his friend?
The Funtastics, GIFT, and Rookie programs will honor special requests for group placement as long as students are in the same grade. This request must be made in writing and should accompany your application.

Instructional programs (i.e. basketball, soccer, etc.) group students according to ability level and competitive balance.  Requests for grouping in instructional programs (i.e. basketball, soccer, etc.) can be made, but will only be honored if the requests do not effect the afformentioned criteria.

Are there any discounts available?
Yes. We offer sibling and multi-session discounts. Please visit the Discount section for details.

What does my child need to bring?

Swimsuit and Towel for Instructional and Recreational swims (swiming is an option in Sport programs)
