"G.I.F.T." (Great
Ideas For Tomorrow)
GIFT - A Distinctive Program with a Difference. Students choose
electives every day from a wide variety of recreational, cultural, and
intellectual activities. The GIFT staff consists of specialists and
enthusiasts who provide the spark and drive that will inspire young
people to explore new areas and ideas. GIFT - a fun-filled experience.
Age Level
Girls and boys entering grades 3 through 8.
Tuition
$995 per session. Red Cross swim instruction (optional) and
afternoon snack. Lunch is available for an additional $60 per session.
Program
Features
Listed below are many of the activities we
have offered in the past. Students are encouraged to choose a varied
program.
•Arts and Crafts.
Painting, sculpture, ceramics, tie-dying, jewelry, sand art,
calligraphy, origami, paper mache, cartooning, and woodworking projects
such as sundials, bird houses, sailboats, and toolboxes.
•Sports and Recreation.
Swimming instruction, bowling at Syosset Bowl, weirdball, relay races,
softball, carnival games, volleyball, dodgeball, touch football, free
swim, soccer, tumbling, basketball, nok hockey, ping-pong, badminton,
ultimate frisbee, floor hockey, scavenger hunts, pillow polo, and
kickball.
•Science. Dissection, bird
observation, nature walk, geology, astronomy, field botany, chemistry,
insect collecting, simple machines, fossils, and a field trip to the
Vanderbilt Planetarium.
•Performing Arts.
Improvisation, acting games, musical theatre and music videos,
sing-along, karaoke, scenery making, dance, camp chorus, recorder, yoga,
musical games, and a talent show at the conclusion of each GIFT session.
•Humanities. Brain Quest,
Jeopardy, camp newspaper, creative writing, chess, human anagrams,
Egyptian pyramids, Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, Family Feud, 20
Questions.
Director,
Craig McKee.
Mr. McKee is a science teacher in the Huntington School District. He was
the LuHi Science Director for the past 15 years and will be returning
for his fifth year as Program Director. In addition to directing the
GIFT program, Mr. McKee will continue to direct the GIFT science
activities.
