Performing Arts

LuHi’s Theatre and Performing Arts Program is held in our Performing Arts Center. It is designed as both an introduction to musical theatre arts and as an opportunity for students to refine the skills necessary for stage performance and production. Some techniques to be explored are stage movement, costuming, characterization and vocalization. The purpose of the program is not only to introduce young aspiring performers to professional theatre skills, but also to help them develop self-esteem and build the confidence necessary for a strong stage presence, skills easily applicable to students’ everyday lives. With a strong emphasis on learning in a fun-filled environment, students will have the opportunity to be a part of a one-hour performance of a Broadway musical presented to family and friends at the program’s conclusion.

Age Level
Girls and boys entering grades 5 through 9.

Director, Rachel Ferzola.
Ms. Ferzola is currently a middle school Language Arts teacher who is fortunate to be able to indulge in her passion for theater. She has been a part of the LuHi Theater Arts Program for the past 15 years, and she explores that avenue in her role as a teacher by directing and choreographing the drama program at Brentwood South Middle School. Ms. Ferzola has been an actor/dancer in many productions at Theater Three in Port Jefferson, and has choreographed for the Summer Theater Arts Program in Mt. Sinai. A proponent of the arts in all its forms, she is especially inspired by the way theater promotes self-esteem and instills confidence in children, teens, and young adults.
